Warning: That 'fast' rust converter gel from the auto parts store is a joke
Used it on a quarter panel on a 2010 Civic. Stuff just turned black and flaked off after two days. What's a product that actually works for surface prep?

Yeah that stuff is basically just black paint. I've seen it happen so many times. It's like the whole "as seen on TV" section of the auto world, all flashy promises and zero follow through. For real surface prep, you gotta get the rust off with a wire wheel or sanding, then use a proper etching primer. That gel just covers the problem for a week.
