Took me 5 years to figure out I was sanding wet for no reason

I used to always wet sand everything because that's how my old boss taught me. Then last month I was working on a 2017 Civic hood at the shop and a new guy asked why I was making such a mess. He showed me how dry sanding with 400 grit actually cuts faster and leaves less garbage to clean up. I mean idk maybe wet sanding has its place for certain finishes but I feel like I wasted a ton of time. Has anyone else had a moment where you found out you were doing a basic step completely backwards?

The 400 grit dry on clear coat is a REAL game changer once you try it. I used to think wet sanding was the ONLY professional way until I saw a guy knock out a whole panel in half the time with way less dust stuck in the paper. Honestly the old school guys just passed down some habits that dont hold up anymore with modern paints.

Heard a shop owner say dry sanding modern clears actually cuts better since it doesn't load up the paper.
