I finally cracked 1,000 upvotes on a single comment last week

I've been posting here for like two years and never got more than 50 upvotes, then yesterday I made some dumb joke about lukewarm pizza and it blew up. Has anyone else had a random post just take off out of nowhere?

Wait, two years and 50 upvotes max? That's wild man. I've been on here for about three years and my highest before that random post was like 120 on a DIY desk setup I was proud of. Then I posted a picture of my cat sitting in an empty cardboard box and it got like 8,000 upvotes overnight. It's totally random like that, feels like the algorithm just picks something on a whim.

Did you see that study about how random internet popularity follows a power law curve? It basically says a few lucky posts get all the attention while the rest of us sit at zero.
