My climbing line got a weird, stiff kink in it after a removal job in Boise last Tuesday.
I was lowering a big limb from a cottonwood and the rope must have twisted under load, so now there's a permanent 6-inch section that won't run smooth through my pulley... any ideas on if this is salvageable or just time to retire it?

Had the same thing happen with my Samson line after a nasty twist. Tried soaking the kinked part in hot water and working it back and forth by hand for a while. It got a little better but never ran perfectly smooth again. Ended up cutting out the bad section and using the rest for shorter rigging lines. Sometimes that core damage is just permanent, you know?

I saw a rigger on YouTube say once the core fibers get crushed, they're toast. He said heat can sometimes help but it's a gamble.
