Serious question, I used to think those $20 thermal fuses were all junk until one from a local parts house in Boise saved a dryer I was ready to scrap.
I swapped it in as a last resort after checking everything else, and the thing fired right up, which made me wonder if maybe the problem is just the wildly inconsistent quality control on those parts and not the part type itself.

What brand was the one that worked? I've had the total opposite luck, the ones from the big box stores always seem to fail again in like six months. Makes you wonder if it's just a batch thing, some are good and some are total junk right out of the package.

Total junk right out of the package" is basically their business model at this point.

Oh man, wait, you're telling me the big box store ones failed again in six months? That's brutal. I had a similar thing happen with a faucet from one of those places, but it just leaked constantly from day one. @the_nina calling it "total junk right out of the package" is spot on for a lot of this stuff. I've noticed that even the slightly pricier brands from those stores can be hit or miss, like they rush everything out. It honestly makes me wonder if they just buy whatever is cheapest and slap a label on it. That's just plain frustrating for anyone who doesn't want to replace things every year.
