I finally had that one conversation about subbed vs dubbed that stuck with me
I was at an anime convention in Portland back in March, standing in line for the bathroom of all places. This guy behind me saw my My Hero Academia keychain and just started talking. He told me he refuses to watch any show dubbed because the voice actors "never capture the soul of the original performance" - his exact words. Then he said he judges people who watch dubbed as "not real fans" and walked off before I could even respond. Has anyone else run into someone like that who made you feel weird about your own watching habits?

The whole "you're not a real fan" thing is just gatekeeping dressed up as taste, and it's everywhere now. I see it with how people watch movies at home too like if you don't have a 4K setup with surround sound you're apparently not appreciating the director's vision. It's exhausting honestly, watching things should be fun not a competition about who cares more.

Appreciating the director's vision" - I watch movies on my phone with the volume on 2.
