That stat about CRT monitors using more power than a fridge blew my mind
I was reading an old 2007 PC World article last night and found out a 21-inch CRT monitor pulls around 100 watts just idling. My current LED monitor uses 22 watts. Is there any reason to keep my old Sony Trinitron around besides nostalgia?

Knew a guy who kept his CRT just for old school LAN parties.

Keep it for nostalgia and a nice space heater combined.

Nostalgia plus warmth is a solid combo honestly. Old hardware like that just has a charm you can't get from modern stuff, even if it's way less efficient. Plus if the power goes out or the main heater breaks, you've got a backup that actually puts out some serious heat. I've got an old Dell tower from like 2005 that I keep around for the same reason - it's basically a space heater with a Windows XP sticker on it. Only downside is the electricity bill, but for the memories it's totally worth it.
