Shoutout to that old floppy disk I found in a shoebox last month
I was cleaning out my closet last week and found a floppy disk from 1999. I popped it into an old USB drive I had lying around just to see if it still worked. Turns out, it had a bunch of my high school essays saved on it. The files opened fine in a text editor after I found an old version of WordPerfect. It was weird reading my 17-year-old thoughts on history class. Has anyone else dug up old files that still boot up fine?

Forty bucks says you spent more time trying to get that disk to work than you did actually writing those essays back in '99. Not sure why anyone would want to revisit high school homework like it's some kind of treasure.

Bet that disk was a 3.5 inch floppy with a sticky label written in gel pen and a doodle of a dragon on it. Those things had a shelf life shorter than a carton of milk in a firehouse, one magnet from a binder clip and poof, gone forever. The real treasure is the cheap thrill of watching someone try to access a file format that hasn't worked since the Clinton administration.
