I filled up my third physical recipe box yesterday

Started one in 2020 with family recipes, now I have three full boxes. The second one is entirely bread recipes from different eras. Has anyone else found a way to organize handwritten recipes without going digital?

Three boxes of handwritten recipes sounds like a nightmare to me honestly. I tried that route back in 2018 with about 50 index cards and gave up after I spilled coffee on half of them. The thing is, handwriting fades over time and paper gets damaged easy. You might think you're preserving family history but really you're just creating a bigger mess to sort through later.

I read somewhere that archivists recommend keeping handwritten stuff in climate-controlled boxes with acid-free paper. It makes a difference but most people don't bother with that lol. You're right about the fading issue though, @ivangrant, a lot of that old ink just turns to dust after twenty years in a cardboard box. I've heard scanning everything and backing it up to the cloud is the only real way to keep it safe long term.
