Vent: That big hardware store off I-25 sold me the WRONG drywall screws

I grabbed a box labeled for green board down at the big orange store near the freeway, and after hanging 3 sheets I realized they're not even coated right for moisture. Has anyone else had trouble with their screw stock getting mixed up lately?

Can't BELIEVE they'd do that with green board screws.

Wait, are you saying green board screws are actually different from regular drywall screws? @diana72 I've been using them interchangeably for years and never had a problem. The black phosphate ones on green board always seemed fine to me as long as you don't overtighten and break the paper. Sure, the green coated ones are supposed to resist rust better in damp spots, but I've pulled apart old showers that had plain screws holding the board and they were still solid after 10 years. What specifically went wrong with your install?

and the green coated ones are just as bad if you get a bad batch. i picked up a box of the coated ones from the same place last month and half of them snapped when i tried driving them into studs. whoever's running their fastener aisle needs to get their act together, because i've had more problems with their screw mixes in the last year than all the years before combined.
