That $200 attic fan install I thought would save my AC bill backfired hard
I mean, I get why people talk about whole house fans for the southwest heat. Seemed like a no brainer - vent the hot air out at night, cool the house down without running the AC. Spent like $200 on the fan itself plus another $150 on ducting and a timer switch. Installed it myself up in the crawl space last June. First couple weeks it actually helped, dropped the indoor temp maybe 10 degrees by morning. But then July hit and those monsoon nights got all humid. The fan just sucked in damp air and made everything feel sticky. Had to run the AC anyway to dehumidify. And the noise... that thing rattles the whole hallway ceiling. Honestly shoulda just put that money toward a mini split or better insulation. Anyone else regret doing one of these whole house setups?

Gotta love spending money to make your house feel like a swamp, right? At least my AC is working overtime to dry out my terrible life choices.

Did you try running it with just the master bedroom window cracked instead of the whole house? I wonder if maybe a smaller pull would've kept the humidity out.
