My air fryer tried to set off the smoke alarm three times last week

I was making buffalo cauliflower last Tuesday and my air fryer started smoking like crazy. I had the temp at 400 degrees and the florets were too wet going in (rookie move, I know). The smoke detector went off three separate times and my neighbor actually knocked on my door asking if everything was okay. Has anyone found a good method for getting cauliflower dry enough before you air fry it?

Wild" is kind of a strong word. I mean, yeah it's a little old school but honestly I'd take a knock at the door over a random text any day. It's just basic communication.
