Found a cracked coffee mug that looked like a mountain landscape after the glaze peeled

I had to choose between tossing it or keeping it as a pen holder, so I kept it and now three people have asked where I bought the 'art mug,' has anyone else turned a broken dish into accidental decor by mistake?

The whole wabi-sabi thing is real, it's like our brains are wired to see beauty in stuff that's technically broken. Once something has a crack or a weird flaw, it stops being just a thing and starts having a story attached to it. We get so used to perfect factory-made items that anything with a little damage stands out as unique, like it comes from a different world. That's probably why people ask where you got it, they're not used to seeing something that looks like it actually lived a life.

Same thing happened to me with a bowl that had a chip that looked exactly like a bite mark. Now it's my go-to snack bowl and people always comment on it like I bought it from some boutique store. There's something kind of nice about using things that have visible history. Glue lines and cracks just give stuff character you can't buy. Makes you wonder how many perfectly good mugs end up in landfills when they could be pencil holders or plant pots.
