Just realized that old homebrew forum is still running from 2004

I needed a yeast starter recipe and stumbled on a forum that hasn't had a new post since 2010. I had to choose between trusting their outdated advice or risking a $40 batch of ingredients, and I went with the forum. Ended up with a stuck fermentation and 5 gallons of watery swill, so save yourself the trouble and skip the ancient tips.

Those old posts probably came with their own yeast starter kit from 2005.

Read somewhere that some of those old forums had weird ingredient substitutions because malt extract formulas changed over the years. Your stuck fermentation might've been from using older yeast nutrient recommendations they swore by back then. Probably best to check a recent brewing podcast or subreddit instead of trusting advice from people who moved on to other hobbies.
