inMy telescope mount failed mid-shoot at Joshua Tree last month
The universe saves its worst gear failures for the nights with the clearest skies" - man, that really hits home. I swear it's like a LAW of nature or something. It's the same with everything too, not just cameras. My car battery always dies on the coldest morning of the year, and my phone always runs out of battery right when I need GPS the most. It's like life is designed to test you at your breaking point, so you can either get mad or just laugh and pack up your telescope.

inI finally found an old cached version of that DIY solar panel guide from 2009, and it's the only reason I didn't screw up my install
Those old Archive.org captures are a lifesaver, especially for stuff like that. Karen, you say it's just a wiring diagram, but that one specific diagram probably had the exact capacitor values for the MPPT controller or something. I've had a similar thing with a 2008 ham radio antenna guide that had a balun winding diagram nobody else seems to have saved. The newer versions always skip the small details that fry your gear if you get them wrong. It's not about the treasure, it's about not setting your workshop on fire, you know?

inSerious question, did anyone else think water kefir was just fizzy sugar water?
Does anyone remember that post from the fermentation forum a few weeks back where a guy said his water kefir always tasted off until he realized he was using chlorinated tap water? I read through the whole thread and like 20 people said the same thing happened to them, even after adding stuff like raisins. I run my water through a brita filter now and it made a huge difference with mine, the bubbles are way more active and the flavor is cleaner.

inGot my cutter suction clogged on a Monday in Galveston
Yeah @viola_cooper62 you're not wrong about the basic stuff, but I've noticed this pattern in more than just dredging. People get so locked in on fixing something the hard way that they forget the simple tricks that work 90% of the time. Reverse the cutter, give it a few minutes, let the water do the work like you said. It's the same with a lot of things in life - we overthink and overcomplicate when the easy answer is right there. I've seen guys spend an hour trying to pull a clog when a simple backspin and some patience would have saved them a ton of hassle. You hit on something bigger here - knowing when to step back and let the system help you out instead of fighting it. That's a skill that transfers to just about everything.

inOverheard a guy at the comic shop say 'real fans don't read trades' and it got under my skin
Three weeks ago at Third Eye Comics in Annapolis I watched a guy tell a teenage girl she wasn't a "real reader" because she grabbed the Deluxe Edition of Saga. @michaelrodriguez your bus comeback is exactly right, but I wonder what makes someone feel so threatened by how other people read comics? Is it about feeling special for picking up issue #1 or is it some weird fear that trades make the hobby too accessible? I mean, Dave at my shop told me trades actually keep the store alive since floppy sales alone don't pay the rent anymore. So who's really the better fan, the guy buying 8 issues a month or the person keeping the lights on with an Absolute Edition purchase?
