Lost $50 on a Geocities web hosting upgrade that never loaded

I paid $50 for a premium Geocities plan back in 1998. Thought I'd get faster load times and no banner ads. My site still took forever to load, especially the midi files and animated gifs. Emailed support three times, never got a reply. Anyone else get burned by those old hosting upsells?

Geocities support was basically a myth. You got taken just like the rest of us.

@maryadams lol yeah I got taken too. What finally worked for me was just straight up emailing their parent company Yahoo's customer service line and explaining the whole thing. I got a real person after a few tries and they actually got my account sorted. It took like 3 weeks of back and forth but it finally went through.
