Took me 6 hours to figure out why my old Netscape bookmarks kept vanishing

Back in 1997 I saved a folder of maybe 80 cool sites on my Windows 95 tower. Next day they were all gone. Took me until 10 PM to realize it was because I had the disk write cache set to zero in the BIOS. Lost a whole Sunday over a dumb setting. Anyone else lose bookmarks to some weird system bug back then?

Wait, you changed a BIOS setting and wondered why bookmarks disappeared? That's like blaming the fridge for eating your leftovers when you unplugged it. I spent a whole weekend in '98 reinstalling Windows 95 three times because I thought a virus was deleting my Quake save files. Turned out my little brother was booting into the recovery partition and messing with the file system. Good times. At least you figured it out eventually, some people never even check their BIOS once, let alone tweak it.

Yeah "good times" is right, I had a buddy who formatted his hard drive to fix a mouse cursor stutter.
