Can we talk about that 'don't use spaces in filenames' advice?

Tbh my old web design teacher in 1998 told me never to use spaces in filenames for my Geocities page. I argued it was fine since browsers handled it okay back then. Well 6 months later my whole 'My Summer Vacation' folder broke all the links on Angelfire. Was she right or was that just a Windows 95 thing?

i mean, that specific advice really was about keeping things simple for older systems, but it's kinda wild how that same lesson pops up everywhere. @terryj45 you're not wrong that those angelfire days were rough. but honestly, i've found this little rule applies to a lot more than just filenames. like, anytime i try to name a document or even a folder on my phone now, i catch myself leaving out spaces just out of habit. it's like that one tiny rule from back in the day stuck with me because it actually prevented a ton of headaches later. maybe it's just me, but i think that whole "keep it simple" idea is something we kinda overlook in everyday stuff too, not just tech. it's like life's way of saying don't make things harder than they need to be, you know?

Oh man, that brings back bad memories of my own broken Angelfire links.
