Why I'll never trust a clean geological diagram again
My field work fell apart when I saw the neat class pictures had nothing to do with the jumbled rocks I was actually standing on.

Ugh, that hits home. So are you saying those perfect textbook layers just don't exist, or is it that they never show the real mess? Like, do they always leave out the crushed bits from a fault, or the way everything is stained and weathered? What was the biggest thing your class pictures got totally wrong?

Textbook layers always look perfect, but real rock formations are a total mess. They never show the cracked and stained parts that tell the real story. Seeing the actual faults in person was a wake-up call, lmao.

The Grand Canyon guide showed us a perfect textbook layer last year.
