My new smart scale bricked itself during a firmware update

I was in my bathroom in Portland, trying to update my Withings Body Plus scale. The screen just froze at 75% and wouldn't respond to anything. I had to find the tiny reset button on the bottom with a paperclip and hold it for 15 seconds to get it to reboot. Has anyone else had a gadget update go this wrong, and what did you do to fix it?

My old Roomba died mid update too.

Yeah, saw a whole thread about that happening to older models, @rivera.susan. Something about the software update just bricking them. Pretty frustrating way for a vacuum to go out.
