Found a notebook in a thrift store last month with a single, weird entry

I was at a Goodwill in Springfield looking for old ledgers and found a plain black notebook. The only thing written inside was on the first page, dated October 17, 1998. It said, 'The dog does not bark at the mailman anymore. I have counted seventeen days.' That's it, nothing else in 200 pages. It's just been sitting on my desk. Has anyone else found something that felt like the first line of a story that never got written?
