Found a 1950s diary with a love confession that never got sent

I was cleaning out my aunt's attic in Toledo last weekend and found a spiral notebook from 1957. Inside was a four-page letter addressed to someone named Frank, talking about meeting at the soda fountain on Main Street. The letter was tucked in the back and never mailed. Has anyone else found something like this where you wonder what happened next?

Did it ever cross your mind that maybe the letter not being sent was actually the whole point? I used to think finding old love letters was just sad, like a road not taken, but a couple years back I found my grandfather's journal from the 40s where he wrote about a girl he met at a train station. He never sent that letter either, but he ended up marrying my grandmother a year later. Sometimes I figure the message meant more to the person writing it than the one it was meant for, you know?

Totally feel you on that. It's like those letters are a snapshot of a moment, a private little ceremony they had with themselves. Your grandpa's story is proof that the real romance was already happening in his own heart before it ever played out in real life.
