Showerthought: That moment when your new house's water heater dies on move-in day
We closed on our first place last Tuesday in a suburb outside Columbus. Everything looked fine during the walkthrough, inspector gave it a thumbs up. Day one we're moving boxes in and my wife goes to take a shower after hauling furniture. Nothing but cold water. Checked the pilot light on the water heater, dead out. Tried to relight it three times, nothing. Called a plumber who came out and found the thermocouple was completely shot. Cost us about $180 for the part and labor, which stung right after closing costs. Should have asked the seller to show the water heater working before we signed. Has anyone else dealt with a surprise appliance failure right after moving in?

Respectfully, a home inspection should've caught that before you closed.

Did your inspector actually go in the attic or just peek from the hatch?
