Swapped from a jar weight to an airlock on my kraut last month

I used to just jam a plate on top and hope for the best, but after pulling mold off three batches in a row I finally caved and bought a real setup. Has anyone else dealt with the frustration of losing a whole head of cabbage to something stupid like a bad seal?

One thing people don't think about is temperature swings causing that bad seal.

And who wants to pay for that kind of repair? It's just a matter of time before that cheap fix turns into a bigger headache. Better to catch it early and save yourself the hassle.
