Overheard a trainer telling a rider that shoeing is just a 'blacksmith hobby'

He said it didn't matter who did it as long as the shoe was on. My takeaway is that some people in the horse world have zero respect for the biomechanics we study. Ever had a client who didn't understand the actual skill involved?

Wow, that is a wild thing for a trainer to say. I actually used to think it was just about the shoe being on there too, until my old horse went lame. A really good farrier figured out it was a balance issue from bad trimming. Seeing him move after it was fixed completely changed my mind. It's a real skill that affects the whole horse. Calling it a hobby is just disrespectful to the science behind it.

My horse's feet are a testament to my own bad balance.
