Had to choose between a full board swap or a component level fix on a busted TV power supply.

Customer brought in a 55 inch Samsung with no power. The board had obvious blown caps and a fried IC. I could order a whole new power board for $80 and be done in 20 minutes. Instead, I spent 3 hours sourcing the exact IC for $12 and replacing the caps. It worked perfectly. Anyone else still do the deep repair even when the swap is faster?

Man, that's the real satisfaction right there. Feels better to actually fix the thing, even if it takes longer. I get why most shops wouldn't bother though.

That same principle shows up everywhere now - everyone's in such a hurry to replace things, nobody wants to take the time to actually understand how they work anymore. We've lost a lot of practical know-how as a society, and that's a real shame.

Time is money, and @daniels42, that extra labor cost eats into your profit for no real gain.
