Flux vs hot air for fine-pitch QFN removal - hot air wins every time

After wrecking a $120 board using flux and a tweezer to remove a QFN chip last Tuesday, I switched to hot air and had the replacement done clean in 90 seconds, so why are people still pushing the soldering iron method for these tiny packages?
