Remember when a phone call actually meant something? Now I can't even get my internet to work

Almost lost it yesterday when my fiber optic line went down for the 4th time this month. I'm out in the sticks near Portland and every time the wind blows my service craps out. Called the provider and they said it'd be 3 days before a tech could roll out. 3 days! I work from home too so I had to pack up my laptop and drive 20 miles to a coffee shop just to send some emails. Made me think about how back in the 90s if the phone line went dead you just went outside or talked to your neighbor. Now I'm sitting there with my cold latte and spotty WiFi wondering why we made everything so complicated. Has anyone else had fiber just randomly die for no good reason?

3 days for a tech is wild, that's practically a month in internet years.
