PSA: That chat with my uncle about home generators hit different
Told me I was dumb for buying a portable unit instead of a whole house setup after we lost power for 6 days last winter in Cleveland. Now I'm sitting here wondering if he was right and i just wasted $1,200.

Dude, I ran a portable generator for five years in Michigan and it worked fine. You only need the whole house setup if you're running central AC or a well pump. For $1,200 you probably got a solid 7500 watt unit that'll run your fridge, furnace blower, some lights, and a TV no problem. The real trick is having a good heavy extension cord setup and knowing what to plug in when. Did you get a transfer switch installed or are you just running cords through the window like the rest of us?
