Walked into a new build in Nashville yesterday...
Whole house was done with 54-inch boards. No butt joints anywhere. Felt like cheating. Back in 2003 we were taping every 8 feet. Took me three tries to get the hang of those big sheets. Dust was everywhere. But damn it looked clean at the end. Any of you guys made the switch to the tall stuff?

52 inch? That's the new standard now? I remember when 48 inch was the big deal. Feels like everything is getting bigger and faster, not just drywall. I saw a guy at the lumber yard last week buying a 60 foot beam for a house that could have been framed with two smaller ones. Its like we are all scared of seams now, in every part of life. How long until we are just building entire rooms in one piece?

Bro it's wild you say that because I swear this whole "no seams" thing is bleeding into everything now. I was at the grocery store last week and saw bagged salad that's literally just one giant leaf of lettuce, like we can't handle two smaller leaves touching each other. Same with our phones too, everyone wants one giant slab of glass instead of a phone with a separate screen and buttons. It's like we're all trying to hide the fact that things are made of smaller parts, like we're embarrassed by joints or connections. Pretty soon we'll be building houses out of one giant 3D printed block and eating a single pasta noodle for dinner. Just funny how scared everyone got of putting things together.
