Picked a used 8-inch dredge over a new 6-inch last spring and it paid off fast
I was torn between a brand new 6-inch Keene and a beat up 8-inch model from the 90s for $4,000 less. Went with the bigger one after I saw the condition of the pump and hull. Has anyone else taken a chance on older gear and had it work out better than expected?

Man that's the truth about those old Yamahas, they just keep going no matter what you throw at them. The thing is those older dredges were built by guys who actually ran them every day and knew what would break, so they overbuilt everything to handle it. A little rust and some faded paint don't mean squat compared to that kind of reliability.

That 1990s Yamaha pump on my last dredge was a tank, still ran like new when I sold it. Older gear is often built simpler and tougher, less electronics to fail. I'd take a beat up commercial hull over a shiny consumer model any day.
