Question about that 1/2 inch drywall screw trick for hanging cabinets
I read on a contractor's blog that using 1/2 inch drywall screws instead of 2 inch ones for hanging upper cabinets actually holds better because they don't hit studs and strip out. Tried it last weekend on my own kitchen remodel and those little screws are holding 50 pound cabinets no problem. Has anyone else used this method or am I gonna wake up to cabinets on the floor?

Wait... are people really using half inch screws for this stuff? Feels like one wrong bump and you're sweeping up broken dishes...

haha, dude I did the exact same thing last summer. My wife still gives me side-eye when she opens the upper cabinets but I used 3/4 inch ones on a set of 60 pound oak cabinets and they've been solid for like 8 months now. The trick is you gotta pre-drill with a tiny bit (like 1/16) so the plywood doesn't split, and I also put a dab of construction adhesive on each screw just for peace of mind. Actually stripped out a couple 2 inch screws in studs on a previous project and that was way more stressful than this method. You're good man, those little screws are surprisingly tough.
