My bathroom ceiling fan died mid-shower and now there's mold everywhere
Last Tuesday the motor just seized up with a loud grinding noise while I was taking a hot shower. Anyone dealt with getting mold out of drywall without tearing the whole thing out?

Check your attic for roof leaks above that fan.

Heard from a buddy who had the same issue that bleach isn't really the answer for drywall mold... it just bleaches the color out but doesn't kill the roots. He said white vinegar or hydrogen peroxide works better for surface stuff if you catch it fast enough. But if it's been sitting there for days like you said, the mold probably got deep into the drywall paper. You might be able to save it by cutting out a square around the spot and patching it, but honestly once mold gets into the drywall core it's tough. Drying the area completely first is key, like run a dehumidifier in there for a few days before trying anything.
