Used to rely on hostel common rooms for my morning meetings, now I rent a private co-working desk for $150 a month
Back in 2021 when I started nomading, I'd just sit in a hostel lobby with my laptop and hope no one was vacuuming nearby. After bombed three client calls because of background noise from a blender or someone's guitar, I caved and got a monthly desk at a place in Medellin. It's $150 for 24/7 access and a solid chair, which feels crazy compared to free but my income jumped 20% from not rescheduling calls. Now I can actually hear myself think. Has anyone else made this switch and noticed a difference in their work quality?

Three hundred dollars a month for a chair that doesn't wobble seems steep. I do my roofing estimates from a park bench half the time and I haven't lost a client yet. Maybe your calls weren't getting bombed by a blender, maybe the clients just weren't that into what you were selling. But if it makes you feel better about yourself and your income went up, who am I to argue with a paid parking spot for your laptop.

Wesley, I've seen a dozen guys try to do quotes from their truck tailgate and it works fine for them. But a park bench with paper estimates? I've watched too many people lose important documents to a sudden gust of wind. The point isn't just comfort, it's about not having to redo work because a bird landed too close. Still, three hundred a month is a car payment in some places, so I get the side-eye.
