After 8 months in Medellin, I finally figured out why my SIM card kept getting deactivated.
I kept buying those tourist SIMs at the airport kiosk for $25, but the real trick is to go to a Claro store with your passport and get the local resident plan for about $8 a month, which doesn't cut off after 30 days like the visitor ones do, so why do so many people still get the expensive temporary ones?

Read a blog that said the airport SIMs have fake activation dates.

Is it a tourist tax on common sense? Honestly, the airport kiosk is just the first and easiest option, so most people grab it without a second thought. Tbh we all overpay to avoid a little hassle.
