My 14,000 unread emails finally got called out by a friend last week

I was showing my buddy something on my phone and he saw the red badge on my email app and just laughed, said 'dude you might as well have a second job just deleting stuff.' He wasn't wrong, I've had some emails in there from 2019 about a Groupon I never used. Has anyone else had a friend or family member call them out on their digital clutter and actually make you think about changing things?

Got called out at a family dinner when my cousin peeked over my shoulder and saw 22,000 unread emails. Said my inbox looked like a landfill and asked if I was hoarding digital coupons from 2016. I laughed but it hurt because it's true, I still have a Walmart alert for a toy clearance from three Christmases ago. Honestly I probably need an intervention, like someone sitting me down and forcing me to click delete on old LinkedIn notifications for jobs I will never apply to. The groupon one got me though, I've got receipts for stuff I bought and never picked up too.

My buddy Mark had 34,000 unread emails when his girlfriend finally snapped. She printed out the first page of his inbox, which was mostly Best Buy rewards emails from 2018 and a "Your Pizza Hut order is ready" alert from a store that closed down two years ago. She taped the printout to their fridge and said he couldn't touch the remote until he dealt with it. He ended up marking 12,000 as spam just to get the number down, but he still has a "We Miss You!" email from a dog grooming place for a dog that died in 2020. He just can't let it go.
