Spent $300 on a Wacom tablet for my art, total game changer or a waste?

I finally bought a Wacom Intuos Pro after using a mouse for years. The pressure sensitivity for line work is incredible, but my friend says his $50 off-brand tablet does the same thing. Was this a smart investment or did I just burn cash on a brand name?
