Why I ditched my expensive photo scanner for an old flatbed from 2008

I was convinced those $300 dedicated film scanners were the only way to get good scans, but I tried my dad's old CanoScan 8800F sitting in his basement and honestly the results are way better for 35mm. Anyone else find an old gadget that outperforms the modern version?

Oh man, that "only way to get good scans" line hit me hard. I spent $250 on a fancy film scanner a few years ago and my grandpa's old Epson from 2005 totally trashes it for 35mm. The modern one keeps giving me weird color casts and dust spots that drive me crazy. My grandpa's scanner just works, no drama. I guess sometimes new stuff is just new, not better.

@hollym12 So true! My grandma's old Canon flatbed somehow has way sharper scans than my pricey new one.
