Noticed my old Windows 95 computer boots faster than my modern laptop

I dragged my dad's old Compaq Presario out of the basement last weekend just to see if it still worked. That thing with its 133 MHz processor and 16 MB of RAM went from power button to desktop in about 45 seconds. My 2023 Dell with an SSD takes close to two minutes because of all the startup programs and bloatware. What happened that made new tech feel slower than stuff from 30 years ago? Has anyone else noticed this weird backward step in boot times?

@ivangrant you got a point man. But here's something funny. My buddy Mark bought a brand new laptop last year and complained it took forever to start up. He spent weeks trying to clean it up. Turns out his little brother had installed like 17 different antivirus programs plus a bunch of toolbar crap from free games. One of the antivirus programs kept scanning the others on startup and they all fought each other. After I removed everything except Windows Defender his boot time dropped to like 30 seconds. So part of it is on us for letting junk pile up. But yeah manufacturers are loading these things with so much garbage out of the box it drives me nuts.

My Pentium II machine from '98 goes from BIOS beep to desktop in like 30 seconds flat. Meanwhile my Ryzen laptop sits there spinning its wheels for a solid minute before I can even click anything. We traded speed for features somewhere along the line and I'm not sure it was a fair trade.
