Question about where to eat in a dead mall? Look for the handwritten menus

I was at the nearly empty Westgate Mall last week and found a cool trick. ALWAYS head straight for any food place with a menu board filled in by hand. There was this tiny pizza counter with the daily specials written in bright marker, and it was the ONLY spot with a line. The owner told me they update it every morning based on what's fresh. That personal touch means they're still trying hard and usually have better prices. I got a huge slice and a drink for way less than a chain. Now I skip the closed franchises and hunt for these handwritten signs first. It turns a sad mall trip into a fun food find every time.

Handwritten doesn't always mean good, had a bad meal that way.

Totally agree on handwritten signs. Scored awesome noodles from a mall counter last week.
