Question about the old 'pretend to shop' game at Westgate Mall

Back in 2005, my friends and I would spend hours in the busy Westgate Mall, playing a game where we'd try to look like serious shoppers in the most expensive stores without buying a thing. Went back last week, and the only store open in that wing was a weird kiosk selling phone cases, so we just sat on a bench by the dry fountain and watched a security guard do laps. What's the weirdest thing you've seen replace a big department store in a dead mall?

Honestly, that whole "pretend to shop" game sounds a bit much. Tbh, the staff in those expensive stores probably just thought you were bored kids, not serious shoppers. It's not that deep. Weirdest thing I've seen is a huge old Sears that got split into a self-storage place and a church.

You think they knew we were faking? I was trying so hard to look like I knew what a credenza was.
