Pro tip: don't buy the $40 'mall explorer' guidebook I just wasted my money on

I got it online before my trip to the old Sunrise Mall in Citrus Heights... it was full of outdated info and blurry pictures from like 2010. The map was wrong and it said a bunch of stores were still open that have been gone for years. I could have just walked around for free and seen the same sad fountain and empty food court. Has anyone else been burned by a guide that promised insider access?

Oh man, totally! I read this article last week about how some guidebook companies just reprint old editions for years to save money. It's wild, @parkerrodriguez. Like they'll have a map showing a visitor center that burned down five years ago, or list a ferry schedule that hasn't run since 2010. You're basically paying for a nice-looking piece of history, not a useful tool. It makes you wonder if they even send someone to check the place out anymore.

Ugh that's the worst! I mean I got a guide like that for a state park once and half the trails on the map were closed. It feels like such a scam when they don't even try to update the info. You're right, you just end up paying to be disappointed. I'd rather take my chances with a free blog post.
