Overheard a guy at the coffee shop talking about how his "secure" password was his dog's name plus the year

Like, I get it, easy to remember. But then he said he uses that for everything. Banking, email, Netflix. He even laughed about it. Made me think how many people probably do the exact same thing, thinking they're safe because they tack on a number at the end. Has anyone else run into folks who think that's good enough?

Yeah tacking on a number at the end" is basically the same as no password at all. My brother in law does the same thing with his cat's name and his birth year and thinks he's a genius. It scares me how many people treat their passwords like a fun little riddle instead of actual security. I've had to talk to my own family about using a password manager at least five times and they still just nod and do nothing. The worst part is these same people get hacked and then act shocked like it came out of nowhere.

Oh man, I had a friend who used "Password1234" for everything... bank, email, work login, the works. He told me once like it was a huge secret, all proud of himself. I tried to warn him gently, but he just laughed it off and said nobody would ever guess it. About six months later his email got hijacked and someone sent ransom threats to his whole contact list using his name. He was genuinely confused, like a password wasn't supposed to be crackable in two seconds.
