Appreciation post: Printed trail maps made my remote camping trip work
I went camping in a spot with no cell signal last fall. Before leaving, I printed custom maps from a hiking forum on tough, matte paper. The local print shop guy showed me how to add my own notes in the margins. I marked where the good fishing spots were and where the trail got muddy. Carrying that map in my pocket felt way better than staring at a screen. When a fog rolled in, I could still read the paper clearly. It hit me that custom printing isn't just for fun, it's a real tool for safe travel. Do you print special things for trips off the grid?

My buddy's handwritten map notes got him through a sudden storm.

Mix up handwritten notes with a good offline map app next time. Phones can store maps without service now, so you get the best of both. The old way works, but it's smart to have a backup.
