The link rot on my old blog got me for 5 hours today
Tbh I was trying to find an old tutorial I wrote in 2011 about fixing a broken RSS feed, and every single link I had saved pointed to a dead page. Took me 5 hours in Wayback Machine digs just to piece together that the whole domain was sold and the new owner 404'd everything. Ngl, the archive had the page but the images were hosted on some defunct image service from 2009. Has anyone else spent a whole afternoon chasing a ghost link like that?

Who actually benefits from keeping dead links alive? Half the old stuff people cry about was wrong anyway, like that tutorial you wrote probably had bad advice that got fixed five times over by now. The Wayback Machine is a graveyard, not a library, and wasting an afternoon there is on you, not the internet. Domains get sold, services shut down, pages die. That's how the web has always worked, and honestly it's a feature, not a bug. Maybe the real lesson is that if a page matters that much, you save it yourself instead of trusting some URL to live forever.
