That link to a 'free antivirus' that bricked my grandpa's computer last week
My grandpa called me in a panic because his computer was covered in pop ups. He clicked some link a friend sent him claiming it was free lifetime antivirus. Turns out the link was broken and redirected to a site that downloaded like 5 fake system cleaners. I spent 3 hours on Sunday removing malware and explaining how to spot these. The weird part is the actual link text said something about 'optimizing your PC for free' but it went to a totally different domain. Has anyone else had to clean up a family member's machine after they clicked one of these broken redirect links?

Read an article last week saying these fake redirect links are actually part of a bigger scam ring that targets older folks specifically. They count on grandpas not noticing the URL changed before they click download.
