That abandoned Geocities shrine to 2003 pop punk I stumbled on at 2 AM
Was digging through some old link archives last night and found a page dedicated to some band I've never heard of. The layout was pure fire on a black background, with a midi file that auto-played and a guestbook from 2005 still taking entries. Somehow the domain was still live. 23 total visitors in the last month. I left a comment asking if anyone was still there. Anyone else ever get sucked into these zombie sites that just won't die?

Wait, is finding some old Geocities site really that deep? I've stumbled on plenty of band pages from 2003 that look like someone threw up a bunch of HTML tags and called it a day. It's just digital junk that nobody bothered to take down.

Wait, is it really just digital junk though? I get what you're saying @barbararamirez, but I think there's a difference between a band page with broken links and some kid's personal shrine to Blink-182 from 1999. The bad HTML stuff is funny, sure, but sometimes you find someone's actual diary entries or poetry they wrote when they were 14. That's not junk, that's a time capsule of a real person's life before social media made everything polished and fake. I stumbled on one once where a girl was writing about her dad's cancer and it was raw and real, like finding a handwritten letter in an attic.
