Spent 6 months booming down too fast on a Liebherr 130 in Tacoma, one old hand fixed it in 5 minutes
For half a year I was fighting the load every time I came down, jerking the stick back and forth like an idiot. A guy named Ray with 30 years in the seat watched me for one pick and pointed at my foot, I was riding the swing brake the whole time without knowing it. Took him 5 minutes to break a habit I built over 6 months on this same machine. Any of you catch yourselves doing something dumb for way too long just because nobody called it out?
Did you ever check the pedals before you started running that machine? What worked for me was spending my first ten minutes on a new machine just finding the controls with the engine off and feeling where my feet sit. The old guys on the crew said most bad habits come from where you rest your boots, not from your hands.
