Reminds me of a guy on my old crew who ran a link belt for three years and always set his outriggers in the same order no matter what. We were on a tight street job one day and he goes to float the pads like always, but the ground had a void under the asphalt from an old sewer line. Pad punched right through and the whole rig tilted. Nobody got hurt but the foreman turned white as a sheet. He'd been doing it that way so long he never once looked at the dirt. Habits are sneaky like that, they hide the things you stop checking.
