Pro tip: Don't cheap out on rigging hardware like I did last month

Honestly, I thought saving $50 on some Chinese shackles from Amazon would be fine for a small job in Austin. One of them cracked under a 10-ton load and nearly dropped a beam. Lost about $300 in repair costs and a full day of work. Has anyone else had cheap hardware fail on them, or am I the only one who learned this lesson the hard way?

Totally risky. I read about some failures on a safety forum.

That kind of failure often comes down to poor maintenance habits rather than the product itself. Most people skip the basic checks that keep things running safe, and then blame the gear when something goes wrong. Could be worth asking what kind of upkeep those folks were doing before you write off the whole idea.
